DYBA Enacts New Bat Regulations for Pony Baseball in 2007

Recent developments in bat technology have created situations in baseball that increase the danger of injury to infielders, and particularly pitchers.  Baseballs can be hit with such speed off bats made with new alloys that infielders do not have time to react to hard hits, and these hits can cause more damage to a fielder that gets hit by them.

On October 9, 2006 the DYBA Board of Directors voted to institute new bat regulations for our Pony Baseball League, effective for the 2007 Spring House League season and beyond.

The new Pony Baseball League bat regulations are as follows:

Quantity

Length

Weight

Diameter

1

32 inches

27 ounces

2-3/4 inches

1

31 inches

26 ounces

2-3/4 inches

2-5/8 inches

These regulations were developed after months of review of other youth leagues’ bat rules, pertinent articles and studies.  Considerable time was spent researching this issue by the Bat Rule Committee of Ken Shields, Brian Silberman and Dave Mandel.  Alex Liberman, Mitch Lieberman and the baseball committee refined the Bat Rule Committee’s suggestions and developed a recommendation for the Board of Directors.
