Coach Chanan returns for his 8th season coaching Deerfield Warriors Travel Baseball, where he has coached teams ranging from 9U through 13U. This season, he will be leading the 12 Red team. Paul is very active in DYBA, where he currently serves on the Board of Directors as Secretary, and formerly as Co-Director of Travel Baseball and Tournament Director for the Deerfield Wooden Bat Tournament. In the past, he has been active on the DYBA Baseball Committee as President of the Bronco and Pony Leagues, as well as Vice President of the Mustang League. Coach Chanan is currently the head varsity baseball coach at Rochelle Zell Jewish High School in Deerfield, and previously served as the 14U baseball coach for the Chicago delegation to the international Maccabi Games, leading the team to an undefeated record and Gold Medal in the 2016 Maccabi Games in Stamford, Connecticut. Paul has also coached youth boy’s basketball in Deerfield and Highland Park, and varsity girl’s basketball at Rochelle Zell. A former options trader and attorney, Paul is now teaching 7th and 8th grade social studies at Solomon Schechter Day School in Northbrook. He lives in Deerfield with his wife Karen, his son Jake, a pitcher for Deerfield High School, and his daughter Maya, a DHS field hockey player.
