Coach Chanan returns for his 10th season coaching Deerfield Warriors Travel Baseball, where he has coached teams ranging from 9U through 13U. This season, he will be leading the 9 Red team. Coach Chanan has been very active in DYBA, where he previously served on the Board of Directors as both Secretary and as Co-Director of Travel Baseball. He is also a former Tournament Director for the Deerfield Wooden Bat Tournament. Prior to that, he served on the DYBA Baseball Committee as President of the Bronco and Pony Leagues, as well as Vice President of the Mustang League. Coach Chanan is currently the head varsity baseball coach at Rochelle Zell Jewish High School in Deerfield, and previously served as the 14U baseball coach for the Chicago delegation to the international Maccabi Games, leading the team to an undefeated record and Gold Medal in the 2016 Maccabi Games in Stamford, Connecticut. Coach Chanan has also coached youth boy’s basketball in Deerfield and Highland Park, and is currently the junior varsity girls' basketball coach at Rochelle Zell. A former options trader and attorney, Coach Chanan is now a 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher, as well as the athletic director at a summer day camp. He lives in Deerfield with his wife, Karen, his son Jake, a former DHS baseball player and current member of the Brown University Club Baseball Team, and his daughter Maya, a DHS field hockey player.
